Hello there! Sorry for the late post. I was wondering why I haven't had any views recently, turns out the three were never posted and stuck in my drafts! Mind you, I'm not really an internet person (failing to post three topics at different times and not noticing it proves it). Anyways, for the sake of suspense, I'll post only one for tonight, and share with you my NSTP volunteer activity tomorrow morning, and a special topic tomorrow night! Watch out for it! :)
(the following paragraphs were already written a while ago, even if I have additional thoughts on it now thanks to my NSTP group work activity, I thought it'd be fair to simply post the original one)
So today we discussed about leadership in our class. We did so through a group activity where we linked various things to qualities of a leader. It's great how we got to use our creativity on provoking our thoughts on what leadership is through symbolisms! Our teacher was pretty impressed with the class' work because we got to cover almost everything. As someone who does her best to lead, here are some of the qualities I'm prioritizing to master first. I believe that this should be the foundation of a great leader and the rest shall follow.
1. Be impeccable with your words and commitments
A leader must do what he said he’d do and never half baked. It will be accomplished when he said it will. One should commit to their work and see to it that it is their priority. This will serve as an example and serve as an inspiration and goal to the followers.
2. Say what needs to be said
This is for the praises, constructive criticisms, and communication in general, All the work that the leader assigns must be clear and well thought of. The leader must be able to elaborate on all the details that he wants to be accomplished. All the points for improvement must also be mentioned for better performance in the future. A compliment and congratulations for a job well done must be mentioned to fuel the drive to maintain or even improve their performance.
3. Hear what needs to be heard.
Scratch that, listen, I repeat, listen to what needs to be heard. A leader must be responsive to the groups needs. Knowing the values and needs of all the members will make a stronger and more effective team because of better communication and bond.
4. Stand straight and good eye contact
All eyes are on the leader. Physical attributes on how one present herself is still a factor on getting people to look up to you. One must be confident in her own skin to be followed. This radiates confidence! I think this is one of the qualities a leader must have that is barely discussed and suggested. I don't really remember this quality being discussed in class! Even though it is, I stand firm with this quality that a leader should have.
I am just 17 years old and I know I have a lot more to learn and experience. But everyone can be a leader no matter what their age is! Be courageous enough to stand in front and take charge! But remember to take note the list I made! The list might not have it all, but I believe it is a good foundation to build on before creating the other details. Hope this encouraged you to be
